Avolites Tiger Touch 6.1 Debuts on Level 42 Anniversary Tour
Lighting designer Yenz Nyholm on running Level 42 on his Avolites Tiger Touch with TITAN 6.1.
This update is very much to Nyholm’s liking; he says he is extremely impressed by a number of the new features. “The best thing for me is the cue stacking. You can display your cue list and each individual cue’s parameters on the screens, but better still you can go in and change every parameter without having to be in the cue itself. This has been a massive time saving device and made making changes very simple and efficient as the tour has moved from venue to venue.”
You can download the latest TITAN software for your Avolites console at http://www.avolitesdownload.com/Support/Consoles.aspx.
Avolites Tours with Florence & The Machine
Lighting Designer Chris Bushell uses Avolites Sapphire Touch. Read about how he makes the show go on for Florence & The Machine.
“I program and operate visually not mathematically,” explains Bushell. “I’m not interested in punching numbers into a desk. The Avolites consoles enable me to quickly and simply achieve what I want, whatever the nature of the job. I asked to take the Sapphire out for some festivals as the dual screen and extra playbacks really lend themselves to that fast paced environment.”
“Foster The People’s Choice, Part 2: Lighting”
Live Design writes about Zachary Matusow’s design for Foster The People. Matusow programs and runs the show using an Avolites Pearl Expert Titan and Touch Wing.

PR: Avolites Media’s Groundbreaking Sapphire Media Infinity Wins Coveted Innovation Award at PLASA 2012
Congratulations to our friends at Avolites Media on their big PLASA award for innovation win! Full release below.
Managing Director, Steve Warren, Ed Pagett, vice chairman of PLASA governing body, Lead Developer Dave Green and Avolites Technical Director, JB Toby.
UK – The Avolites Media Sapphire Media Infinity video control system has been awarded the prestigious PLASA Award for Innovation.
During this year’s PLASA show at Earl’s Court in September, 47 products were judged, ‘live’ in front of show visitors, as an independent panel of expert judges toured the show floor, camera crew in tow, to view presentations about each product. “Nominees are asked to demonstrate a new style of thinking, an improvement in technical practice, an aid to safety, energy-saving or sustainability benefits, or new technology, materials or techniques,” explains one of the Judges.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, Avolites Media’s Sapphire Media Infinity represents the next exciting step in Media Server technology, says Steve Warren, managing director of Avolites Media. “The powerful unit contains an incredible 8 Full HD outputs and conveniently, each DVI output has an accompanying preview output. The Ai Infinity also includes internal EDID management, LTC and MIDI Time-code, Genloc Input, Multi-Server Frame-sync and Master-Slave remote control which all goes to produce an incredibly flexible video controller.”
Seeing the Sapphire Media Infinity in action, the judges commented: “It’s the first integrated video control surface dedicated to video. It’s well thought through and well designed.”
The Avolites Media Sapphire Media Infinity has already been put to spectacular use at the Olympics and Para-Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Ai Infinity was used to help map and control the 70,500 mini pixel screens located in the stadium seating, which together created the world’s largest video screen ever.
Steve Warren, MD of Avolites Media, enthusiastically stated; “This is the start of a new era at Avolites and 2012 has been an amazing year for all within the Avolites team. As well as Titan V6 receiving fantastic user reviews, we are filled with pride at our opportunity to amaze the world’s largest viewing audience ever with the Olympic Games audience pixels.
“At the same time, and overshadowed by the Games, we controlled a massive 800 sq. mt, high res LED screen and 12 mapped HD projectors for the Miss World Finals in China. The icing on this sensational cake was to receive the recognition and respect of our peers in the industry by being awarded a PLASA Award for Innovation!”
Chair of the judging panel was Richard Cadena, PLASA Media’s technical editor. Assisting Richard were acoustic consultant at Audio Improvement Services, Jim Cousins; theatre consultant Paul Franklin of Charcoalblue; production manager Ola Melzig; Creative Technology project manager Gerry Francke; freelance writer, Steve Moles; rental lighting director and director of Hologramica, Liz Berry; theatre consultant for Akukon, Tapio Ilomaki; managing director of TM Audio, Marc Kocks; lighting designer Ben M Rogers; video and lighting programmer Cat West; Ed Manwaring of EM Communications; Mats Karlsson of Video Equipment Rentals, and specialist electrical engineer, Nick Read.
